ARTIST HEALTH CARE SURVEY
The School of Arts and Culture of the University of the Poor, in conjunction with Acts of Art, is conducting a survey on health care experiences of people who work in the arts and cultural fields. Make sure your voice is heard! Take the survey at:
www.universityofthepoor.org/schools/artists
Some Initial results:
Only 13.2% of respondents to the survey reported having coverage through their artistic/cultural work. 28.6% have no coverage at all. 68.8% of respondents reported that they or one of their dependent family members had gone without medical treatment that they needed, because they were unable to pay for it.
Just like for many other people in this country, artists as a group contribute a lot to our society, but often lack some of the basic things we need to live, like health care. We're trying to collect some data on this, to know a little more about artists' experiences. This data will be used for upcoming Congressional Hearings on Health Care and for a Truth Commission this summer, organized by the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign.
